There Are Voices I remember-9/11 Remembered

On radio “American Airlines Flight 11 impacts the north side of the North Tower.”

I was driving the Sprain on way into New York when I heard the news.

On radio “Airlines Flight 175 impacts the south side of the South Tower.”

I’d just parked the car as that inner voice said, “We are under attack.”

On CNN “American Airlines Flight 77 impacts the western side of the Pentagon.”

Collective Gasp in office, all of us white as sheets.

On CNN “South Tower suddenly collapses, plummeting into the streets below.”

I heard my own silent screams, too stunned to cry.

On CNN “The North Tower of the World Trade Center collapses.”

Deathly Silence as our nation begins to grieve.

On CNN “Police confirm the crash of a large plane in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.”

My inner voice, “My God, why have thou forsaken me.”

On CNN “Five stories of the Pentagon collapse due to the fire.”

My wife asks no one in particular, “Why?”

Seven years to the day if one listens closely to the breeze.

2,974 angels can be heard singing.

As heavenly winds blow across hallowed ground.
